How to Calculate the Strength of a Material?
To calculate the strength of any material, you can use our strength of material calculator. It is very easy to use. You just need to enter some details, such as the length of the materials, the area of the material, and the force applied to the material.
- Input the Applied Force: In the initial step, when you open the calculator, you have to enter the amount of force that you want to apply to the material. This force will be in Newtons (N).
- Input the Area of Material: In the second step, you have to enter the cross-sectional area of the material. The area will be in meter squares (m2).
- Enter the Length of Material: In the third field, enter the length of your material. This length should be in meters.

To determine how the steel beam will perform under this load, the calculator will first calculate the stress on the material. Stress is the force applied per unit area and can be found using the formula:

First, convert the area into square meters for consistency with the force units.
1 cm2 = 0.0001 m2
Area =50 cm2x 0.0001 m2 = 0.005 m2
Next, apply the stress formula:
Stress = 100000.005 m2
Stress =2,000,000 N/m2
Stress =2 MPa (Megapascals)
