How to Use a Heart Rate Calculator?

A heart rate calculator calculates your heart rate by inputting your age and exercise level. This helps determine your target heart rate zones for effective and safe workouts.

  1. Enter Your Age: Input your current age to estimate your maximum heart rate.
  2. Select Exercise Level: Choose from low, moderate, or high to tailor the target heart rate zones to your activity level.
  3. Calculate: Click the calculate button to get your target heart rate ranges.

After entering your details, the calculator will provide your estimated maximum heart rate and target heart rate zones for different exercise intensities, helping you optimize your workouts for your fitness goals.

Example;

Our heart rate calculator uses your age and exercise level to estimate your maximum heart rate and target heart rate zones. This helps set appropriate exercise intensity levels for effective, safe workouts tailored to your fitness goals. Assume you put these details:

Age: 30 years

Level of Exercise: Moderate

Now, Enter your age as 30 and select the moderate exercise level. The calculator will give you your heart rate in less than a second.

Solution

The heart rate calculator is based on a formula.

220 - Age = Beats Per Minute

Then it uses your exercise levels to calculate bpms.

For Low exercise levels: The Heart rate is 50-60% of the maximum heart rate.

For moderate-level exercise: The heart rate is 60-70% of the maximum heart rate.

For high exercise levels: The heart rate is 70-85% of the maximum heart rate.

So for moderate levels of exercise, here are the calculations:

For lower End:

220 - 30 = 190 bpm

190 x 0.50 = 95 bpm

For the upper End:

220 - 30 = 190 bpm

190 x 0.70 = 133 bpm

Your target heart rate zone for moderate exercise is between 95 bpm and 133 bpm. This range helps ensure you’re exercising at an effective and safe level.
