Simplifying fractions calculator

This calculator is used to simplify the larger fractions to smaller ones making it easier to interpret the values. It can be used to calculate a simple fraction or a mixed fraction. The Simple Fraction has two sections of the numerator and denominator respectively. It also has the ‘Calculate’ and ‘Reset’ button that performs different functions of the calculator.

The first step is to enter the value of the numerator in the top text field and the denominator in the bottom text field. Click the ‘Calculate’ button to execute the calculation. The simplified fraction will appear below the two controls. It also indicates the calculation used by the calculator to determine the simplified fraction result.

For example;

Simplify 45/5

Solution

You will first enter 45 as the numerator in the top text field and 5 as the denominator. Click on the ‘Calculate’ button to get the simplified fraction.

The result of the simplified fraction will be; 9/1

Calculation;

GCD = 5

45 / 5

= (45/5) / (5/5)

= 9 / 1

= 9 X 100%

= 900%

The mixed fraction section of the calculator has an extra text field where you will enter the whole value of the fraction.

For example;

Simplify 1 45/5

Solution

Whole value = 1

Numerator = 45

Denominator = 5

Enter the values in their respective text fields then click on ‘Calculate’

The simplified fraction result will be; 10 / 1

Calculation;

GCD = 5

1 45 / 5

= 50 / 5

= (50 / 5) / (5 /5)

= 10 / 1

=10

= 1000%

Example 2;

Simplify 5 4/7

Following the same procedure, the simplified fraction result will be; 39 / 7 = 5 4/7

Calculation

GCD = 1

5 4/7

= 39/7

= 5 4/7

= 5.5714285714

= 557.14285714%
