Voltage Drop Calculator

The Voltage Drop Calculator is used to compute the voltage drop in volts (V), percentage of voltage drop (%) and the wire resistance. (Ω). The first procedure is to select the type of wire. It can either be Copper, Gold, Carbon Steel or the others. You can also adjust the size of wire diameter and wire length to match the specifications. Afterwards, you can select the type of current in DC (Direct Current) or AC (Alternating current) Single Phase and Three Phase. Click on the calculate button to execute the calculations. Your results will be displayed below the two control buttons of the converter.

For example;
If you have Aluminium as your wire type and the diameter size is in millimeters find the voltage drop in volts, percentage of voltage drop and wire resistance.

Solution
You will first select the choices according to your requirements and then click the ‘Calculate’ Button. The results will be displayed as;

Voltage drop in volts = 0.000675553

Percentage of voltage drop = 0.000562961

Wire resistance =0.000675553

Formula of calculating the DC/Single Phase current

V drop (V) = I wire (A) x R wire (Ω)

= I wire (A) x (2 x L (ft) x R wire (Ω/kft) / 1000 (ft/kft)), which means that the voltage drop in volts is computed multiplying the wire current in amps by; 2 times the length in feet by the wire resistance per 1000 feet in ohms. The result is then divided by 1000.

V drop (V) = I wire (A) x R wire (Ω)

= I wire (A) x (2 x L (m) x R wire (Ω/km) / 1000 (m/km)), where the voltage drop in volts is computed by multiplying the wire current in amps by; two times the length in meters by the wire resistance per 1000 meters in ohms. The answer is then divided by 1000.

Formula of calculating 3 Phase Calculation

V drop (V) = √3 x I wire (A) x R wire (Ω)

=1.732 x I wire (A) x (L (ft) x R wire (Ω/kft)/1000 (ft/kft))

V drop (V) = √3 x I wire (A) x R wire (Ω)

=1.732 x I wire (A) x (L (m) x R wire (Ω/km)/1000 (m/km))

The Voltage Drop Calculator can be used to perform different conversions within a short period.
