Kilocalories to kilojoules conversion

E (kJ) = 4.184 x E (kcal-th), which means that the energy in kilojoules is calculated by multiplying the energy in kilocalories by 4.184.

It can also be expressed as;

1 kcal-th = 4.184 kJ

For example;

If the energy in kilocalories is 2000 kcal-th, find the energy in kilojoules

Solution

E (kJ) = 4.184 x E (kcal-th)

= 2000 kcal-th x 4.184 = 8368 kilojoules (kJ)

Converting international kilocalories to kilojoules

E (kJ) = 4.1868 x E (kcal-IT), where the energy in kilojoules is calculated by multiplying the energy in international kilocalories by 4.1868

For example;

If the energy in international kilocalories is 0.478, find the energy in kilojoules

Solution

E (kJ) = 4.1868 x E (kcal-IT)

= 4.1868 x 0.478 kcal-IT = 2.0012904 kilojoules (kJ)

Converting 15° C kilocalories to kilojoules

E (kJ) = 4.1855 x E (kcal15), where the energy in kilojoules is computed by multiplying the energy 15° C kilocalories by 4.1855.

For example;

Convert 0.478 15° C kilocalories to energy in kilojoules

Solution

E (kJ) = 4.1855 x E (kcal15)

= 0.478 kcal-15 x 4.1855 = 2.000669 kilojoules (kJ)

Converting 20° C kilocalories to kilojoules

E (kJ) = 4.182 x E (kcal20), where the energy in kilojoules is calculated by multiplying the energy in 20° C kilocalories by 4.182.
